What is BW on HANA

SAP Business Warehouse (BW) - #sapbw powered by HANA Data base helps speed up data analysis by consuming data via data ware house for analytical reporting and data analysis. With HANA, one can achieve real time reporting, data integration, data modelling with large amount of data.

SAP Business Warehouse (BW) being a powerful data analytics tools provides flexible master data and transaction data maintenance. With SAP HANA underneath the BW as a data base one can achieve high performance improvements with HANA- In-memory computing database.


HANA in-memory database is exceptionally faster when compared to any traditional data base like oracle, SQL server. It combines both ETL (Extraction, Transformation and Load) from BW and HANA in-memory computing engine to process huge volumes of data.


Benefits of HANA

  • In-memory processing to deliver faster data retrieval speed.

  • Disk-based storage is still enterprise standard and the price of RAM is steadily declined.

  • Column based storage provides data compression up to 10 times

  • Excellent performance of analytical reports.

  • On-the-fly aggregations.

  • No need of BWA index.

SAP HANA Studio


SAP HANA Studio is a Eclipse based tool. It provides environment for HANA administration, HANA information modelling, and HANA data provisioning. In the SAP Software Download Center, you have access to the installation media and components for SAP HANA.


When SAP BW is powered by HANA, all the objects, tasks created are optimised and they produce excellent analytical reports.

SAP HANA Studio provides a development platform for:

  • SAP BW Modeling

    • Creation of Info objects, Info Area, Application Component, ADSO, etc

  • SAP Native HANA Modelling

    • Creation of Calculation views, Analytic View, CDS etc


LSA and LSA ++


In SAP BW, LSA Architecture makes the data model robust, flexible and scalable solution to enterprise data warehouse solution.

The LSA Framework comprises


  • Data delivery

  • Data modelling

  • Data staging

  • Authorisations

  • Solution delivery

When BW is implemented on SAP HANA, you can create a different LSA which is more dependent on virtual objects. This is known as LSA++ and it consists of three key layers −

  • Core Data Warehouse Layer

    • Data Transformation point

  • Virtual Data Mart Layer

    • Integrate and Combine the data
